New Ostomy

One of the many questions you ask yourself after getting home from the hospital is "What now"? As many have said, while the hospital provides you with general care information, no one tells you about the many options of bags/accessories/Options.

What is an Ostomy?

An Ostomy is a surgical procedure that creates an opening (Stoma) in the abdominal wall that connects an internal organ to the outside of the body.

Did we forget to tell you that there are different types of ostomies?

An ostomy bag covers the stoma and collects output.

Now while we can't control our flow, Whether you use a two piece or one piece pouch is TOTALLY UP TO YOU! I suggest trying out both to see which you prefer. Both can either be drainable or disposable.

Two Piece Pouch

The two piece pouch contains two pieces, the Bas plate/Wafer and ostomy bag. Its allows you to remove the bag without removing the waffer.

*** This is a great option for those who do not like to rinse their bags and prefer to just change the bag. Most perfer a closed end disposable bag( as pictured above labeled Disposable).

One Piece Pouch

The skin barrier, also known as the wafer or baseplate, and the pouch or bag come as one single or undetachable unit.

Lock n' Roll

The Lock n' Roll is a drainable pouch that opens at the bottom to allow emptying. This microseal closure is an integrated closure on the pouch.

Clamp Closure

The Clamp is a plastic molded closure to seal the bottom of a drainable ostomy pouch that does not have an integrated closure. Also used to seal the bottom of the colostomy irrigation sleeve. It has a Hinged design that is secure and easy to use in three steps.

*** 1. Open 2. Position 3. Close ***

Urostomy Bag

Urostomy bags that are used to collect urine after some types of bladder surgery.

  • Instead of going to your bladder, urine will go outside of your abdomen into the urostomy pouch. The surgery to do this is called a urostomy.

Now while we can't control our flow, Whether to use accessories to make the experience more comfortable for us is OUR decision.

Seatbelt Pillow

These amazing pillows were created for people to use after surgery. No they weren't specifically made for post ostomy surgery but they work just the same.

  • Even months/years after surgey this pillow will help you on any car ride.

Skin Barrier

This serves as a protection to your skin from leaks. It can also be applied around the waffer and used in the place of adhesive tape.

  • It can be placed directly on irrited skin. It can help the bag stick without further irritating your skin more.

Stoma Bag washing Bottle

Worried about staying fresh? Well DON'T. This cleaning tool can be used anywhere, just fill it with water.

  • When wearing a One piece drainable bag, you can easily rinse your bag with this tool. Thelong nozel helps you get  up in there without making a mess.

Ostomy Deodorant

One of the BIGGEST questions I had was will people smell it and it had me terrified.

  • Just a few drops inside the pouch with have you feeling more comfortable. The drop elimate the odor and its works amazingly well.

Cleanser & Adhesive Remover

Wondering what to use to clean the area and get the sticky stuff off?.

  • These wipes work as a two in one. They clean the area of all residue and remove any adhesive without stinging.
